Natural Baby Shower Ideas

A baby shower is a celebration with friends and family in honor of an awaited baby and a chance to give parents-to-be gifts and support before their great day.

In the past baby showers were women only gatherings, but increasingly Mum and Dad will join the party. The tradition has been around for a very long time with Romans and Egyptians celebrating births to Victorian era tea parties for expectant mothers. In present days the traditional ways to have a baby shower are becoming more open to interpretation, now the sky is the limit on themes and games played.

It really pays to do a little research on gift and party ideas so you can make your baby shower a truly memorable event for yourselves and your guests. Many parents say that the stress of an upcoming birth is forgotten and definitely lessened, because of the fun and love shown during their baby shower.

The first place to start when planning your baby shower is to set a really fun atmosphere. This can be conveyed to your guests with a colorful and funny invitation that perfectly explains your intended themes. Don’t forget to choose a date that gives everyone plenty of time to prepare and buy gifts.

The Real Secret to Baby Showers...

Remember, this is an entertaining way to rediscover your childhood. Be light hearted and imaginative – on the invitation you could request all the guests appear dressed in pajamas and dressing gowns.

Always keep in mind the things ‘you used to do’ when you were young and let your creativity run wild – invitations written on (color-photocopied) cartoon teddy bears or an individually addressed invitation on a party hat to be worn only once the guest has arrived.

Everyone knows Nursery Rhymes, whether it is ‘Jack and Jill’ or ‘Old MacDonald had a farm’ there are many ideas for fancy dress up themes or decorating the party rooms. The Teddy Bear’s picnic is another approach to be decorated with an abundance of teddy bears and foliage in your party area.

An addition to the teddy bear's picnic is the option of picnic hampers to be brought by the guests, each one with different dishes to make up a party menu.

leaf Simple guessing games can break the ice like picking the expected birth date. Or a ceremony for unwrapping the presents where guests try to guess what they are, this can be combined into a kind of ‘baby bingo’ if the parents want to go to the trouble.

leaf Once everyone is in the party mood you can introduce more interactive games like ‘guess how round Mummies tummy is?’ This game is played by the guests each cutting a piece of string or ribbon and have the expecting Mum wrap it around her tummy. Whoever chose the right length wins.

Or a limit to the gifts bought at not more than $20 each.

Nature Beds believe a ‘baby gift tree’ is a very eco-friendly way to celebrate a baby shower. Expecting parents can buy a special tree to plant on the birthday of their child.

This has two advantages, the first in helping the environment through your baby’s tree absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen as it grows and the second advantage is to allow guests at the baby shower a handy place to attach their gift vouchers onto the tree’s branches.

A continuation of the 'baby gift tree' concept is a clothes horse or line that can be set up in the party room to which guests attach organic clothes or bedding.

Above all remember to have fun and really celebrate the arrival of your wonderful child.
