How to Feng Shui Your Baby's Bedroom

For more than 4000 years Feng Shui has been used to find good ch’i or energy flows in living spaces with the aim of attracting health, wealth and happiness. You can also use basic Feng Shui concepts to create a tranquil bedroom environment so your baby will sleep better and be more refreshed when it wakes.

Other benefits are for young children who in the night leave their bedrooms to come to yours may benefit from a Feng Shui planned sleeping environment.

Feng Shui tradition recommends that beds be anchored with the headboards against a solid wall and space to move on either side allowing for the flow of ch’i. The wall should not have a bathroom or toilet behind it, because according to ancient Feng Shui principles regarding prosperity water represents money and is better placed in the living room.

Also there should be no water features in the bedroom these include fish and pictures of lakes or seas. To promote harmony energy should not be directed straight at your baby, it is better that the bed’s placement doesn’t face directly at a door or be located under a window where energies flow in from.

Another common sense Feng Shui recommendation is removing all clutter from the bedroom, especially under your baby’s bed. This lets air circulate and means no blockages for the energy flow.

In many bedrooms it has become fashionable to use vibrant colors. According to Feng Shui these bright colors are better used in playrooms to energize your child than in the bedroom, which is an environment for rest and sleep.

Feng Shui Color Schemes

Pastel color schemes are regarded as correct to support a peaceful and nurturing atmosphere.  Keep the pastel theme consistent by having similar colored bedroom furniture as well. To discover your baby’s favorable colors you can use our ‘Gua’ number calculator.

Further Feng Shui hints are to use soothing natural scents such as essential oils lavender, chamomile or vanilla in the bedroom and blinds on the windows to regulate light levels. Near the window, soft wind chimes or mobiles can help to diffuse light. Electrical appliances should be kept at least one meter from the bed.

Soft meditative music can assist your baby to sleep creating a peaceful mood in the bedroom. Use of natural fibers for bedding and drapes is recommended.

To keep the room fresh and healthy use organic non-toxic cleaners. Nature Beds recommends plants in the room, though out of reach of the bed.
